I was determined to get both the poncho and sockapalooza socks done this weekend. I have to mail the socks on Tuesday so they were more important, but I did finish both, and they are laying out, sort of blocking together.
The poncho is really, gorgeously soft. I tried it on before blocking and it fit nicely, and its so soft and nice, plus I have almost a whole ball of Morehouse 2ply left over. I think I might have just developed a slight addiction to Morehouse merino now.
I say that the socks are sort of blocking because they are actually machine washable- and really shouldn't be "blocked" with all those cables and ribbing. I washed them mainly to make sure they are clean. I am sort of not happy with the socks because the knitpicks essential yarn seems to have a slight fuzzy quality which makes them look a bit ratty when you are just holding them. However once they are strtched out and the cables pop out nicely, they look good. I don't know- I really hope my sock pal likes them. Goodness knows I worked really hard on them.
Secondly I am still spinning novelty yarn:
Enough for a hat, which it will eventually become... I am a bit dissapointed because my spinning isn't getting any smoother- however I have to remind myself that I haven't devoted much time to spinning, so I can't expect myself to get better without a lot of practice. Oh well- maybe I am doomed to spin novelty yarn forever. We shall see. Next up is some undyed BFL.
Lastly, I discovered something really cool the other day.
A while back I went looking for a ball of Opal sock yarn. I knew- I just knew I had bought some Opal with a blue pattern on it. I looked high and low and couldn't find it anywhere. Anyway, I was digging around in a bookshelf yesterday and pulled out a bag. I thought "Huh" and looked in the bag. Inside was this:
It was actually in the form of a half-finished sock- totally WAYYY TOO HUGE. (I had knit it on size 3 needles- Opal, size 3 needles? What was I thinking? I started this sock way back in my sock newbie stage so I guess I can be excused for my ignorance). So I ripped the sock out and I now have an extra ball of Opal. Yea! (Although I am "socked out" for now.)
Next up: dishclothes and the Cable 8 sock. I had one commenter who had noted that she had lost track on how many projects I had "planned." Yeah- its true- I do tend to have a lot of things in the pipeline, but I think a lot of knitters are like this. I mean what do ya'll think? I am always planning new things to knit, and sometimes plan them long before I actually knit them. Who else is with me?
Just try to practice spinning a few minutes each day and it will improve. Once you "get it", you'll be able to go longer periods of time between spinning.
Both the poncho and the socks look great. The Essential does pill or fuzz a bit, but it does wear pretty well.

Everything looks great, the poncho looks warm and cuddly.
Your spinning will get better, it just takes timem. And remember people pay A LOT of money for novelty yarn. Why, I'm not sure, but people do.
